INTERVIEW:

Kami Hill

The Rooted Minds Blog x Poetry.Hype

RM: What has been your journey to being in the field that you’re in today? (Artist, Musician, Athlete, Entrepreneur, Business Owner, Creative, Etc.) What has been the most impactful lesson that you've learned?

KH: The most impactful lesson I have learned is that it all starts, flows and ends with you. The spark is within you along with the ability to light the fire of others around you. And with this gift, comes great responsibility. Along with the importance of harnessing an extreme amount of self-preservation. I’ve learned that you can apply the same strength to anything in life, it’s transferable. So, where will you take it?

RM: For those who may not know, how did you develop the name or concept for your business or project?

KH: Sacred Lotus Collective is an innovative platform where you may find self awareness, healing tools and motivation. Here we channel selfcare through many modalities including Skincare, Collective Readings, Poetry, Interactive Blogs and Podcasts. Sacred Lotus Collective has evolved from my previous business Pretty Girlz Skincare Lounge that was located in San Diego. Within the transition of opening up this brand beyond skincare, I was called to also expand the name and incorporate the Lotus. 7 years ago I got a Lotus Unalome tattoo and I wanted to incorporate this into the new name. I have always had a personal connection to the lotus flower with its ability to rise above muddy water and bloom at every dawn. I believe this represents my spiritual journey through rebirths and resilience. The lotus reminds me that what I experience isn’t crazy, it’s significant. Within Sacred Lotus Collective we encourage evolution, creativity, community, culture and passion as we channel ultimate dedication to reaching personal goals within an uplifting environment. This concept came to me within a dream, and a nudge from spirit.

RM: 1) Tell us about your inspiration behind an upcoming project. 2) What do you hope to accomplish and what do you hope people take away from it?

KH: My upcoming projects are inspired through my souls purpose. I channel this to the people throughout any form that needs to be expressed, I enjoy dabbling in them all! May it be through poetry, dance, rap, channeled messages, card readings, slideshows, podcasts or visuals. I understand that people digest knowledge throughout many different ways, and I try to create content that speaks to all people. Providing diversity in order to expand my message at all times. I hope people take whatever they are specifically meant to take/learn/grow from my work. This mission for me is a soul mission. Those who are meant to connect to it, will.

RM: What have been some effective ways that you've marketed yourself in your space and industry?

KH: Throughout the skincare aspect of my brand I have marketed myself through Groupon, markets, referrals and social medias which resulted in a 5 star business. As for the rest of my brand I promote through Instagram stories/posts, love poetry, YouTube, RapFame and SoundCloud.

RM: How have you grown as an entrepreneur or creative in the last 5 years and who's been influential in that process?

KH: I believe the ways I’ve grown may only be understood through viewing it for yourself. This is why I’ve documented so much of my journey on Instagram posts and stories. I feel it’s important to leave this mark and share openly for others to discern for themselves. I’ve kept up as much content as I could since 2014, so that others may find something useful for their own journey. Spirit has been the most present along this process, but I’ve also experienced some very relevant people. Some of these people I’ve met unexpectedly and they gave me the exact food for thought/business idea that I needed at the moment. Others I check in with regularly and are daily guides for me through their content that they share. Overall, I’m constantly influenced by the ones that speak to my soul. I’m grateful for a few special stars.. Travis Olson, Daylyt, Imani (TheHoodHealer), Big Bossman Collective, Kelly Graver (Connected Hearts Coaching-Counselor), Cindy Perez, Temastechniques, FosterEbayy, AngelSouls444, Spiritual Tony, xxxtentacion and Ashley Evans.

RM: What are some short-term goals that you are working towards, that friends and supporters can help you with?

KH: At the moment what would mean the most is tapping into my messages, sharing, and liking content. On another scale, I desire access to a studio or equipment that would be extremely beneficial for some projects I have in mind. I also desire more like-minded individuals that are open to co-creating music videos and table talks.

RM: What are one or two things that keep you grounded? How do you practice good self-care or how can you practice it better (if you've been lacking in that area)?

KH: My grounding techniques consist of whatever feels right in the moment. This may look like anything from a night out dancing to a night journaling. I believe I’m here to live a full life, one that consists of all aspects of life. When it comes to my self-care rituals, I realized it’s important to allow myself to experience at all, and deprive none. When it comes to my self-care, some things I could improve on are honestly having even more time for it! As my 9-to-5 may take over from time to time, I often think about what ideas for myself I wish I had more time for.. But don’t we all?!

RM: What are some words of wisdom or encouragement for upcoming creative entrepreneurs that you'd like to share?

KH: You know what to do.. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Keep it up, we are reaching towards our promised land family! Keep envisioning it, like you can almost taste it. Maybe we will mess around and create.. Heaven on earth. Asé

RM: What has been the best piece of advice you have ever received in reference to your career and industry?

KH: “Everyone who makes it, knew they was gonna make it. It was in your job description to make it.. you just didn’t know how. And you spent the majority of your life figuring out all the places, keys, paths, and mentalities.. really figuring it out. And when you finally make it… you gotta look at the world like the Book of Eli… Stay on the path. All this other shit is none of your concern. Just stay on the path, that’s it. You get to a specific point in your life, stay on the path. Nothing else matters, keep walking.. just stay on your path towards greatness. Lock in, keep your space clean, keep your circle clean, keep your path clean and stay on the path. Continuously keep walking in divinity.” - Daylyt
