We are excited about another season of poems with our open-submission video contest!

Poetry is so diverse and there are many ways to write and record it and we want to continue being a platform that delivers opportunities for poets to do poetry. 

​

We are looking for poems that push the envelope and advance necessary conversations around personal, social, and professional development.

Submissions open on 11/17/23 and close on 12/18/23 at 11:59 PM MST (US Time Zone)

Prize:

The winner's video along with multiple runner-ups will be featured across I Am Root's social media. The winner will receive a $50 honorarium. Additional entries may also be recognized and published.

Multiple submissions are welcome, but one video per submission.
All entrants will receive 15% off any purchase from the I Am Root Website.

Eligibility 

Age: You must be 18 years or older to enter (or have your parent's permission)

Language: We welcome poetry in any language, as long as the non-English videos are accompanied by subtitles. 
Previous Publication: Videos that have been previously published elsewhere are eligible, with the understanding that any selected video may need to be taken down from other locations on the internet.

RULES:

Video Length: Videos must be 1-5 minutes in length.
File Size: File size may not exceed 1GB (if emailed)
Submission Format: Videos must be submitted using the submission manager on this page. Most common video file types are accepted. Please send us a download link OR YouTube Link (upload your video as unlisted)
Rights: You MUST own the complete, transferable rights to ALL elements of the submission. This includes but is not limited to text, audio, video, and images. These videos will be uploaded to our IAMROOT Co Youtube Channel during the Voting period. 
Collaborative Poems: Collaborative poems are fine!
Video Quantity: Only one video per submission. Multiple submissions are OK.

Please note that submissions that do not meet these rules may be disqualified.

CONTEST PROCESS:

Judges: Members of the I Am Root, Poetry.Hype and Rooted Minds staff and a carefully selected group of artists and judges will review all submissions to determine the winner, runners-up, and any other videos we may be interested in running. 50% of the votes are weighted from fan voting on our website. 
Notices: You will be notified of your submission status as the contest progresses, via email to the address you used to make your submission. 
Timeline: The duration of judging will depend on the number of entries that we receive, so we’ll keep you all posted on our social media about the contest.

SOME TIPS & SUGGESTIONS:

Contact Email: The email address and name you use for your submission are what we will use to contact you. 

Video Quality: While video and audio quality will be one small factor in our judging process, the quality of the poem and the performance will be weighted much more heavily. 

Tip: If you’re filming this yourself on a smartphone or similar, then try to do it inside, somewhere that’s well-lit, and without background noise. Consider turning your phone horizontal while filming!
Tip: If you’re using a video of a live performance, like an open mic or something similar be sure that the audio is usable and without much background noise.
